Event at FGV explores the role of technology in tackling organized crime
On October 27, in Rio de Janeiro, the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV) will host the event “Dialogues on Public Security 2025: Security and Focus – Challenges and Solutions for a Safer Future”, bringing together authorities, researchers, journalists, and experts to discuss the future of public security policies in Brazil.
Promoted by FGV’s Directorate of Public and Corporate Security (DSPC), with support from the Amado Mundi_ platform, the event will feature four thematic panels and include representatives from all three branches of government, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, civil society, and police forces.
Among the highlights, Professor Eduardo de Rezende Francisco, Head of the Department of Technology and Data Science at FGV EAESP and a lead researcher at FGV Analytics, will serve as moderator of Panel 2 – “Technology on the Trail of Crime”, taking place from 10:50 a.m. to 11:50 a.m.
The panel will examine how criminal organizations such as the PCC and Comando Vermelho employ sophisticated money laundering schemes, dominate illicit markets, and operate structured fraud networks—and how Brazil can respond to these challenges using advanced technologies in investigation, data analysis, and prevention. The panelists include:
-
Lehi Sudy dos Santos, Forensic Expert at the Federal Police
-
Victor César dos Santos, Secretary of Public Security of the State of Rio de Janeiro
The participation of Professor Eduardo de Rezende Francisco reaffirms FGV Analytics’ commitment to integrating data science, technology, and applied analysis in the development of evidence-based public security policies.
