João Luiz Becker
João Luiz Becker is a Full Professor of Technology and Data Science at FGV EAESP. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from UFRGS, a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from UFRGS, a Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics from IMPA, and a PhD in Management Science from UCLA, United States. He also attended the Colloquium on Participant-Centered Learning at Harvard Business School (HBS), United States, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at UPMF, France.
He served as a Full Professor at UFRGS for more than 40 years, where he coordinated the Graduate Program in Administration (PPGA) and held several leadership positions, including Dean of Planning, Vice Director, and Director of the School of Administration.
Professor Becker was a member of the Economics and Administration Committee at FAPERGS, Coordinator of the Administration, Accounting Sciences, and Tourism area at CAPES, and a member of both the Advisory Committee on Economics, Administration, and Law, and the Advisory Committee on Technological Development and Innovative Extension at CNPq.
He is currently a Senior Research Fellow (Nível SR) at CNPq, where he coordinates the Research Group on Information and Decision Support Systems, working primarily in his Decision and Modeling Laboratory.

He has supervised or co-supervised more than a hundred students, primarily at the graduate level, and has received several academic awards, including the supervision of two theses that won the CAPES Thesis Award and one that was nominated for the same distinction.
In addition to his academic work, he has contributed to technological development and managerial capacity-building as a consultant in administration and mathematical modeling of complex systems, providing services to numerous companies and government organizations, including IPERGS, Eletrobrás, CRT, Gerdau Group, RBS Group, Zottis Group, Imbralit, EBCT, Gol Linhas Aéreas, Braskem, Banrisul, Plásticos Zanatta, Instituto do Câncer Infantil, Maxion, Claro, the State Department of Education of Rio Grande do Sul, T-Systems, Ford, Paramount Lansul, AES Sul, Way Amadeus, Booz Allen & Hamilton, Terramar, Riocell, Franklin Ford, Sonae Group, and Souza Cruz.
He is currently conducting research on managerial applications of text mining, automatic recommendation systems, customer clustering, deep learning, customer lifetime value (CLV) assessment, and simulation of Markovian models.
